Early in a blue-skied morning and at an already appointed time, we will start our journey to uncover the beauties of southern Morocco. This trip will take us to the fascinating Sahara desert through mesmerising natural sceneries. Starting in Marrakesh, our destination today is Ouarzazate. Our scenic route marks our road-trip with colourful landscapes and tidy Berber Villages. Our first stop will be in Ait-Ben Haddou, the largest Kasbah in Morocco, for Lunch. Et Hami El Glaoui, the founder of this Kasbah, was one of the last Berber chieftains during the 19th century. The menu is stuffed with diverse options of dishes. Then we will head south towards the Dades Valley through the oasis of Skoura. After this we will carry on to our Riad/Hotel at Ait Ben where we will spend the night. For better comfort and flexibility purposes, this trip offers recommendations of Hotels and Riads to spend the night. They are different in terms of theme and position in the oasis.
After breakfast and at an already appointed time, we will proceed our journey toward Merzouga. This road is known as the path of 1000 Kasbahs. Colourful and tidy Berber (Amazigh) Villages surround them. We will arrive to Tinghir after a 45 kms drive. This village is fascinating by its surrounding palm groves enclosing an ancient Jewish quarter. Our trip includes Todra Gorges. We will have a break in a 300m high canyon. The fascinating view is mesmerising in down the cliff of these canyons. Then we will head south to the dunes of Erg Chebbi in the Sahara Desert of Merzouga. On our way to Merzouga, we will have lunch in Erfoud. Proceeding to the Deep South, we will dive deeper in the oasis enjoying fascinating views of the biggest oasis in North Africa. Upon our arrival to Merzouga, our camel man will serve some refreshing nomad tea with mint. After taking some rest, the blue camel man will carry us through invisible pathways to a nomad desert camp. We will enjoy a surreal experience of the sunset shadowing the blue sky with bright pink. We will spend the night in a nomad desert camp around a fire enjoying a nomad calming music under the Milky Way and the Poles Stars.
Early in a refreshing morning, our camel man will wake us up to not miss the sunrise of the Sahara Desert. This sunrise is mesmerising with its beautiful colours shadowing the early morning sky with shades of pink, orange and yellow. The camel man will carry us atop his camel friends to our hotel to take a local breakfast of Moroccan pancakes, fresh juice and mint tea. Then, our drive to Ouarzazate proceeds. Our first stop will be in Er-Rissani and its authentic uncovered market. The hooded men and women bargains in a century old fashion trespassing time remaining in a place that witnesses their resistance to time keeping the communal culture together. Lunch will be typically Filali (referring to the Oasis Taffilalet). The stuffed menus in the local restaurants prove the richness of the region. The local stuffed bread is highly recommended. Stuffed with meat, almonds, and many other local ingredients makes it an attraction for all Moroccans as this village is the only place one can get it. After lunch, we will head southeast to Alnif. Its fascinating Kasbah and authentic vibe makes it a good shadowy spot for a break. On our way to Agdez, we will notice nomad goat shepherds wondering in the green pitches of the region. In Agdez, we will have our last stop before arriving in Ouarzazate to appreciate the beauty of the Tamnaugalt Kasbah. The Ait Saoun-Mountains is ornamented with sand castles; the same that might have inspired Jimmy Hendrix to write his song “Castles Made of Sand” as the youth in the region believe. Upon our arrival to Ouarzazate, we will be stunned by the towers of the Kasbahs standing stout in the face of sand storms for centuries ago. we will spend night in Ouarzazate.
Early in a blue-skied morning and after breakfast, we will proceed to Marrakesh. Our first stop will be in Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, the largest Kasbah in Morocco. Et Hami El Glaoui, the founder of this Kasbah, was one of the last Berber chieftains during the 19th century. UNESCO classifies it as a world heritage site. Families still live in fortified Kasbahs around it. Many movies were filmed in this attractive area such as “Lawrence of Arabia”, Babel, “The Mummy “, “ Jesus of Nazareth” and many others. We will stroll and cross a dried river to uncover the majestic Kasbah for its authentic vibe. Then we will cross the High Atlas Mountains enjoying the refreshing air. In Tizi Ntichka on top of the Atlas, we will have lunch in a local restaurant. Our last stop will be in Marrakesh where will have a sight on the famous square of Jamai’ ElFna.
